Our experience

Thanks to the participation of highly qualified experts and the excellent infrastructure, the alliance between FUND-ECO and the IE is considered innovative and effective support for the management of projects, the search for funding and the management of financial resources.

Our experience, built up over the years, assures managerial, administrative and methodological mechanisms which guarantee technical feasibility and administrative efficiency.

FUND-ECO applies transparent operational procedures and sound financial management practices. Its operations and budgets are closely watched by the independent and well respected members of the Board of Directors. Prestigious local companies, affiliated to international firms, audit the accounts annually.

FUND-ECO handles 4 types of financial funding:

1. Self funding
2. External funding
3. Funds established under Special Agreements.
4. Scholarship Fund

1. Self funding

Consists of the constitutional patrimony, the annual contribution of the members and the income generated from managing projects.

2. External funding

These resources are destined for project implementation. Since the beginning of its operations, FUND-ECO has managed and coordinated more than 60 projects on its own initiative or at the request of national and international institutions, for a total amount of US$ 6,821,953

.
Resources have been received from:
The Western Ontario University in Canada and the Leipzig University in Germany
Development agencies: GTZ, DANIDA, BID, EU, PNUD and OEA
Public entities: FONAMA, PL-480 and PNCC
National and international NGO’s: LIDEMA, FAN, PUMA, Mac Arthur, TNC, CI, WCS, IPGRI / Biodiversity and American Bird Conservancy
Private companies: TEXACO, Transredes, Chaco, Sinchi Wayra and Inti Raymi

3.Two funds established under Special Agreements.
FUND-ECO was granted the management of these special funds based on its solid financial management process and the positive results of the external audits to guarantee quality and transparency in its handling and use.

The first fund benefits the Institute of Ecology (IE) of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA) and the Forest Sciences College (ESFOR), belonging to the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS) of Cochabamba.

The use of these resources contributes to the continuity of their operations, expansion of their infrastructure, purchase of equipment and materials, as well as improvement of academic and research capabilities.

The second fund supports the implementation of the Postgraduate Center in Ecology and Conservation (CPEC), under the tuition of the IE. Its purpose is to contribute to the permanent education of professionals specialized in conservation planning and management, focusing on the sustainable use of natural resources and the environment. .

This enables the participation of 20 professionals from different disciplines every two years. To date 100 graduate students finished the master’s degree program.

It also fosters the promotion of interdisciplinary research, analysis and debate with inputs from the socio-economic and natural sciences.

4. Scholarship Fund

The Postgraduate Scholarship Program grants partial funding to students of the CPEC to prepare their theses. A requirement for this scholarship states that candidates must be able to provide their own partial contribution.

Since the re-structuring of the Fund in 2004, 11 degree projects have been approved and 4 students of course V and VI obtained their degree.
